  Critical Power Solution Case Study

Pioneer Landfill Methane Gas to Energy Project Exeter Township, Pennsylvania Requirements:

Turn Key construction & installation of a 6.4 MW Landfill Gas to Energy Project located at the Pioneer Crossing Landfill in Exeter Township, Pennsylvania for Green Gas America, Inc. a subsidiary of Green Gas International B.V The Netherlands. The landfill is owned by J.P Mascaro & Sons an organization with over four decades of waste management experience.

Equipment

Four Caterpillar Model G3520 (20) cylinder 1,600 KW Landfill Gas Reciprocating Engine Generator Sets generating at 480 volts, each with paralleling switchgear installed in its own stand alone Sound Attenuated Enclosure. Four Step up Transformers rated at 2,500 KVA 480 volts to 15 KV and (1) 69 KV Substation Transformer. The following equipment was provided by Philadelphia Electrical Equipment Company (PEECO): PEECO Freedom iGear Paralleling Switchgear system for each generating plant. Medium Voltage 15 KV Switchgear with controls. 69 KV Substation Centralized Control Room and Repair Station consists of the Paralleling Switchgear Master Control Section with a Touch Screen Display, SCADA system, Positron phone system, Transfer Trip system. The station is also fitted out to serve as the site office.

Responsibilities

PEECO was responsible for all project management and installation for all power generation equipment and utility interconnection. Green Gas America, Inc. was the project developer and responsible for equipment procurement and air permits.

PEECO Experience

Philadelphia Electrical Equipment Company (PEECO) has over 27 years of success in the power generation business with 20+ years of methane gas to energy in the USA and Europe. PEECO is a leader in the design of Power Generation Control Switchgear under the Freedom iGear brand name and is a supplier of custom generator plants up to 50MWe. In addition to its engineering and manufacturing capabilities it also plays a dynamic role in project development, turn key installation and actively converting outdated power plants to the latest in control and monitoring.

Result:

With much public and government attention the plant was commissioned in October 6, 2008. Joseph P. Mascaro III, Pioneer Crossing's Director of Environmental Compliance said: "We are delighted that gas from the Pioneer Crossing landfill is now being put to productive use. With rising energy costs, it's especially pleasing that the Green Gas solution provides a new source of clean energy. This new plant cuts greenhouse gas emissions and enhances the safety at our landfill."
