Longwood Gardens is a peaceful 1,077 acres of lush green, forests, fountains, and gorgeous sites located in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. Having so much land with higher power demands, they needed a powerful and customized electrical distribution system to keep things running smoothly. PEECO helped in the design specifications for their long awaited new electrical substation at the Botanical Garden Installation of Longwood Gardens.
PEECO supplied power systems to the installation contractor, which included two diesel powered 2.25 megawatt tier 4F generator sets generating at 13.2 kV along with a 26 section medium voltage switchgear lineup. It is a redundant GE PLC package with independent HMI touch screens at a remote location which allows for safer operations and easier access. The system ties into the older existing diesel standby plant with a 2,400 volt 3 phase interconnect and to the two 13.2 kV utility feeds. The redundant RX3i PLC platform uses six levels-of-operation modes to controls all of the operational functions for the entire system.
